Scan analytics

QR code tracking and scan analytics

See how many people scanned a code, when, on what device and from which country. Tracking requires a dynamic QR code: the code encodes a short link, our redirect logs the scan and forwards the visitor, so measurement happens without a tracking pixel on your page.

  • Total and unique scans over time, per code and per campaign
  • Device, operating system, browser, country and referrer breakdown
  • CSV export of the raw scan log for your own reporting
  • Country, language and OS rules to send scans to different destinations

Why static codes cannot be tracked

A static code contains its payload directly: the phone decodes the image and opens the link with nothing in between, so there is no request we could count. A dynamic code contains a short Qreator link, which the phone resolves through our redirect — that hop is what makes scan counts, geography and device data possible. If a code is already printed as static, tracking cannot be added retroactively.

What we measure, and what we do not

Each scan records a timestamp, coarse country, device type, operating system, browser and referrer. We do not store precise location, and we do not build cross-site profiles. Unique scans are estimated per code, so a person rescanning the same poster twice in a session is not counted twice. Add UTM parameters to the destination when you also want the scan to appear inside your own analytics.

Questions, answered

Can I track a QR code I already printed?
Only if it was created as a dynamic code. A static code has no redirect to measure, so tracking cannot be enabled after printing — the code has to be regenerated as dynamic and reprinted.
Is QR code tracking accurate?
Scan totals are exact, because every redirect is logged. Country and device come from the request, so they are reliable. Unique scans are an estimate, since phones do not expose a stable identifier.
Does tracking slow the scan down?
No noticeable delay. The redirect resolves at the edge with a cached lookup and the scan is logged after the visitor has already been forwarded.
